FEATURED Ibiza hotels
Nestled in the warm Mediterranean waters off the coast of Northern Spain, lies a group of islands which have come to define sunshine holidays. Known as the Balearic Islands, the most popular are Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza. Each has their own cultures, sights, and attractions and for Ibiza this means world class clubbing, freedom of artistic expression, and a rich cultural history which promotes the very best in hospitality. Within its hotels Ibiza presents itself with authenticity, confidence, and style.
The history of Ibiza which has helped define this warm and welcoming island is linked to centuries of trade as an important Mediterranean port. Successions of influences incorporating Roman, Moorish, and latterly Spanish culture arts and cuisine have made the island what it is today, a vibrant community which is accepting of different ideas, philosophies and lifestyles. In the 70s, the hippie generation came to identify with the culture of the island and many artistic and cultural influences from this time remain, but it is the clubbing generation who have elevated the island to the status of a global clubbing capital.
The island offers many world class clubs and many electronic and dance music styles have their origins and influences on the island. Trance music in particular is synonymous with Ibiza and the ambient electronic lounge styles so popular amongst the islands most fashionable cafes. Superstar DJs are made in Ibiza and many come back each year to celebrate their successes.
There are two main towns, Sant Antoni and Ibiza Town, and the major clubs are invariably in one or the other. The towns are also home to a great many cafes, bars, restaurants and shops, from the high end fashion boutiques to the busy markets. A great many hotels are located in the towns also and form the ideal base from which to enjoy all the activities and attractions of the famous nightlife. For some, all that is required is a comfortable room and peaceful space in which to recharge the batteries after some night time celebrations and for others it will be all the exclusive luxuries and personal service imaginable. The choice is yours.
Party people may come to the island for one reason but to miss out on the islands boundless other attractions is to do a disservice to the wonderful beaches, and spectacular countryside full of historical importance and visual splendour. The beaches of Ibiza are certainly special and form the backdrop to an exceptional family holiday. The main beach resorts on the island are Santa Eulalia, and Es Cana, both located on the eastern shores, and in the most northern part of the island, Portinatx, which is beautiful, secluded, and romantic.
Within its beach resort hotels the island is a whole different place from the busy towns. Santa Eulalia and Es Cana in particular are geared towards families, and the large resort hotels will have a wealth of family friendly services and activities which may include children's clubs, swimming pools and other activities. Parents are catered for too, often with all meals included, a selection of bars and lounges and often nightly entertainment.
The beach resort hotels provide a whole range of excursions and activities such as boat trips, and tours of the island's most popular locales. There may also be opportunities for sports such as golf or tennis and within the inland areas walking, cycling, hiking and mountain biking are all popular activities. Car hire is also available for those who want to tour the island in more detail and see some of the sights off the beaten track and natural attractions such as the rocky outcrop of God's finger at Benirras Bay. Hiring a boat is also an excellent way to explore some of the more secluded coves, cliffs and beaches.
The countryside is a largely undiscovered paradise and more and more people are waking up to its obvious natural delights. Some of the best hotels Ibiza possesses are situated in the countryside and take on two basic forms. The first of these is country club style resorts. Grand statements in luxury, service and amenity these resorts generally have a wealth of leisure and sporting facilities such as fitness suites, tennis courts and access to some excellent golf. The other style of countryside hotels have converted farm buildings or Fincas. These are more intimate establishments often family run for generations and they offer an authentic slice of Ibecencan country life and culture with luxurious and exclusive appeal.
If luxury and exclusivity are the prime motivations for choosing a hotel then the boutique hotels Ibiza has are sure to meet the demands of the most discerning of clientele. Many of these are situated within the towns and occupy historic and unique buildings, where style and luxury is matched by a commitment to excellence in personal service.
The cafe culture on the island is legendary, food combines all the best flavours from Spain and Catalonia with its own unique local twists and within the wonderful environments of its hotels Ibiza cuisine is at its very best.
